Ngā Whakamārama - Service Description
The aim of this programme is to increase the awareness and understanding of domestic violence and the effects it has on wahine Māori and their tamariki.
What is the Whakaoho Wairua programme?
The Whakaoho Wairua Programme is a 10 week educational and therapeutic programme designed specifically for Māori women focusing on areas such as:
- Exploring family violence and its effect on wāhine and tamariki
- Myths, and cycles of violence
- Tactic of abuses
- Dealing with stress and anger
- Protection orders and safety plans
- Traditional roles of tāne and wāhine Māori
- Understanding power and control
- Opportunity to share, discuss and express feelings
- The program is free and confidential
Other services provided:
- 24 Hour Crisis Line
- Safe House Accommodation
- Advocacy Support
- Court Support
- Health Education
- Play Therapy for under 5's during program
